Faith in Action Receives Unexpected Grant

Much Gratitude to Tom and Julie Dirksen Foundation!

Renee Rudell teaches aerobics in the Sun Lakes community 5 days a week.

She is friendly and outgoing with all her participants and listens to them about events in their lives. You really get to know people when you sweat right next to them. Recently, she heard that Faith in Action was in need of funds as they opened their new office in Banning to serve the homeless and low-income in the Banning Community.

In another state, Renee’s parents, Tom and Julie Dirksen have a foundation set up for a family member and were asking for suggestions of worthy nonprofits. Renee immediately spoke up and asked President Carol Allbaugh to provide the needed information with no expectations.  One week later, Faith in Action received a surprise check for $10,000!   You never know where seeds are planted and how they may bloom.

Faith in Action facilitates Rental Assistance.

It happened!! According to Louella Riddle four of her apartment tenants were awarded rental assistance this past week from Lift to Rise. Louella, property manager of Towne Apartments referred her tenants to the FIA October event and 4 of them responded by coming to the event, filling out forms, and providing the required documents. Then the wait began. Due to COVID impacting many of the social service agencies through personnel becoming sick, the fastidious process of checking paperwork and corresponding with clients, the approval for rental assistance has been up to a 6-month delay.

Faith in Action is partnering with Lift to Rise to hold events in the Banning area so that people do not have to go to Coachella Valley for appointments, and to work with tenants on a regular basis so that paperwork is complete and does not slow down the process.

Louella came by the Saturday, Feb 12 Community Assistance Event at Our Savior Lutheran Church and was greeted by Addison Sims, a Beaumont High School Student in the health pathway who is interning with Faith in Action.

The next Community Assistance event will be in March where rental, utility assistance will be available.  BenefitsCal and Social Security accounts can be set up, ID vouchers, mortgage assistance will be facilitated.  The date and location will be announced on the Faith in Action website: www.fiasgp.com
